Part 6: Scales - Intro

Moving From Beginner To Intermediate

If you are reading this right now then you are one of the proud few who chose to stick it out past beginner level.  Industry research suggests that 90% guitarists quit within the first year.  Of those 90% very few ever took the time to even consider learning scales.  This tells me right off the bat that you are a passionate and dedicated student; the only type of student I want to teach.

This is the intermediate portion of this website.  (If you are a beginner go back and check out parts 1-5). This section is all about scales.

Why learn scales?  Well to be honest, if your only goal is to play a few simple songs by the campfire with some friends, then you don't need to learn scales.  However, lets talk about a few reasons you might want to learn scales.....

If you are someone who wants to progress beyond beginner status and understand the guitar further, you must learn scales.
If you ever want to play guitar solos, you must learn scales.
If you ever want to play in a band- whether lead guitar or rhythm guitar- you must learn scales.
If you want to write your own songs, you must learn scales.
If you want to improvise, you must learn scales.

If you want to understand music theory, you must learn scales.

I'll stop there but the list goes on and on.  Can you see the importance of this?

Learning guitar online is a great option for many people.  Maybe you live in a small town where there aren't any good guitar teachers, or maybe you live in a big city where it's inconvenient to drive an hour just to pay for an overpriced lesson.  Lessons over the internet are easy and affordable and just as good as lessons in person.

Just like in the previous sections of this website, each section will progressively build on the one before it.  Click the link below to begin on the Pentatonic Scale.
